What is it like to be on Death's doorstep? Labels: musings
Do you fear it, resist it, fighting it every step of the way?
Persisting in drawing in breath after wheezing breath?
Struggling to speak even though only gurgles are emitted?
Without a certain upbringing from young, most people probably cannot let go of life without a backward glance, without thinking, "No! I don't want to die! Save me!" This is so remniscent of the article on 武士 that is in my Japanese textbook. Much as it may be human nature to be greedy, there's no way we can strike a bargain with the devil to prolong life, not even for a few more minutes.
Given that the Grim Reaper shows no mercy nor favouritism, death probably is a much-talked about, or at least much-thought about, topic. Do women have it better both in life and death? In a drama I watched, the protaganist said, "Before they are born, women are held in the arms of God. When they are born, they are held in their mothers' arms. When they grow older, they are held by men. When they die, they are held by God again."
Do such thoughts make reality more bearable?
Death is a reality.
How does one say goodbye?
