我不介意你的傻
Sunday, 14 October 2007

Ever think that in our lives, one day hardly differs from the other? Perhaps when it isn't so boring, it's because you went somewhere, met someone... I'm thinking that what people say to us matter to. Most of the time, conversations are like (recent) movies - enjoyable, but forgettable. If something someone said stands out in my mind, then it matters, doesn't it? Certainly, insults may stand out and we'll bristle with annoyance, but it's so much more pleasant having sweet stuff to remember. Meeting new people has been fun, yet while we enjoy each other's company, we seldom say, seriously: 知り合ってよかったね!I don't know, maybe it's some kind of innate need for affirmation, that people think it has been good to meet me etc. There's a need/want to be liked and accepted in a foreign land. It seems rather rare that people say these things and mean it with all their hearts, so when I feel that someone's sincere, I feel rather touched (dang it always sounds so corny and I feel so stupid when I say that!). And it makes my day more special.

Perhaps it's as sy said, we miss being taken care of. We "miss having someone to rely on - a good friend to talk to, a boyfriend's shoulder to lean on, a mother's fussing"... I didn't think of it that way, but it's true. I've been in the role of princess practically all my life in Singapore because I was so pampered by my mother and friends. While it's great to have so much freedom now, and be able to yell from the rooftops "I AM AN INDEPENDENT LADY!!!", sometimes, just sometimes, I wish I didn't have to take care of everything myself, or that I could unload some of the responsibility of taking care of me to someone else. Then again, accepting an offered jacket to keep warm against the chill in a cinema seems different from accepting it in a cold autumn evening. I'll feel bad about being warm while the owner and lender of the jacket gets chilled, so I suppose there are times when people sort of try to take care of me but I reject it. Hmmm. I should just stop thinking and accept whatever comes my way huh.

Okay. I see a whole chunk of words but I don't know what exactly I'm getting at. Words, special, being taken care of... I like them all. I am such a sucker for words, and gentlemanliness, and pampering, and all those good stuff that makes someone feel like a princess! Now get me my castle!
