“The faraway tree moo, the faraway tree. I’ll be waiting for you there.” So he said to her once when she was feeling down. These two friends who chatted every night, met up every week, knew each other well – they often talked about meeting for a dance in lalaland. Be it the waltz, the rhumba, the foxtrot, or anything else for that matter, it mattered not a whit. For a while, they danced regularly. But as they grew busier with their own schedules, they fell into bed exhausted, with no energy leftover for dancing. Those lalaland meetings became a thing of the past, a sweet memory. Then he invoked that memory to cheer her up. She was touched – he remembered! The heart-warming familiarity was only possible between those two specific parties. That incident of unhappiness passed, but with the passage of time, the friendship changed too - a little less tight, a little less bonded. And so the dancing dwindled again. While they may have fallen out of the habit, it remains a cherished memory, the sweetest dream. Labels: friends
