My first trip during my winter vacation to Niigata has come and gone! Bad start, good ending, so all was well. People usually head to that area to ski, but us, nah, we're different from most. What did we do? You'll see. :) It was awesome having a white christmas, the first ever in my life. Being able to frolic about in the snow without feeling chilled to my bones; I thought that was awesome too. The weather was perfect. I wanted to see snow, but more than that, I wanted to see it snow. Having both my wishes come true, wow. The feeling of lying back in the snow, looking up into the sky and watching snowflakes drift down from heaven, it is pretty amazing. All the little little things made me feel so blissful! Snow and christmas is a mighty powerful combination.
.: Day One :.
the cosy place was stayed in It was basically a build-snowmen and take-pictures-at-the-pond day. The first day, snow was so fascinating, we couldn't get enough of it! After an extended period of absence, it becomes very exotic, you know? Everywhere I went I tried to leave my mark. I can't count the number of times I jumped onto a snow pile and tried to make snow angels, or simply for the purpose of leaving my shape there in some weird pose. Childish, yes, but these made me feel really gleeful.
taking pictures - something i did a lot of
happy to be there!
swing swing
the first day, i sat on snow whenever the chance presented itself
mini snowmen! guess which is mine?
try as i might, i couldn't lift this giant snowball i found
(everytime i tried to stand, i sunk into the snow -.-)
but he could do it! raar!
strangely, i look vacuum-packed, no?!
making a pretty snow angel was harder than i thought(the ass keeps sinking in and makes a deeper depression! >.<)
a-hah! i conquered Mt Snow!

frozen pond! first time i ever saw something like that in reality!
*prays* please let me not sink into thigh-high snow too often...(it's pretty tiring trying to extricate oneself from all that snow, you know!)
jump if you wanna get up!
that's our big snowman! :D
snow makes the landscape postcard perfect
i look like i was photoshopped and put into the picture. but i promise you, it's real!
funny, i like this. =p dance mania! hahaha.: Day Two :.
Since we'd built a snowman the day before, this time we decided to do something different and build an igloo instead!!! How cool is that?! There isn't an exodus of pictures as in day one, because we spent six whole hours digging and digging, and were a little too busy to whip out our cameras every few minutes. It's amazing what exercise does for keeping one warm. We were so warm we removed our thick coats and toiled (yes, toiled! It was so tiring digging in with the spade and throwing snow around, I got muscle ache the next day! >.<) for the sole purpose of creating an impressive igloo. Impressive it was. It felt good that the guests at Mimizuku all admired it and some even went out to take pictures with it. For first-timers, with the aid of the otousan, we did good! And it was pretty heartwarming that the neighbours came out to talk to us, even bearing little gifts like a bagful of oranges and a candle to illuminate our igloo at night. Niigata hospitality? The christmas eve concert by the north american new age musicians dressed in red indian costumes was awesome. The sounds that their instruments make are simply breathtaking. How is it that pieces of wood put together can make such graceful sounds?
eskimo wannabe
beached whale. makes you wonder how the rider fared huh...
"i'm going to clobber you with this!"(no, actually, i really did help ! i was just... taking a breather from backbreaking work)
during another break, i messed around again. it's in my nature, can't resist it =p
voila! our igloo, big enough to stand up in within! :D .: Day Three :.On this day, I walked the owners' dog, Ruru! It sure was enthusiastic, as compared to when Weiheng walked it on our first day. Today, it ran. At first, it trotted. Then it broke into a full out gallop, and so I had to run like I was in a race for the 100m dash. It was so darn tiring! Amazing that I went off for a holiday and ended up getting more exercise. First, the digging from building the igloo. Then, the running from walking the dog. Bleah. Anyhow, we had grand plans (ok, maybe it was just me, I don't know) to build two snowmen to flank the beginning of the pathway leading to our igloo, but we got too caught up with sledding, we decided to forgo that idea. That, and the idea of building a snow christmas tree somewhere.

have you ever seen a husky in singapore?! the poor dog will melt!

who looks happier, me or him? =p
how do you like my (unintentional) baboon impersonation?
you've got to love this expression
haiii-yah! kungfu kick! fwah!(it was my intention to jump gracefully, but somehow ended up looking comically kung-fu like. the crane pose or something, like wh said. hahaha)

[p.s. it took me 3 hours to complete this entry. 6am, way past bedtime! >.<]
