Guys are like pants. You have to try them on to know the fit, wash them to find out whether they shrink or expand after washing, or whether the colour runs, or the shape goes all awry - basically whether they can withstand the washing, the wringing, and retain their original states which you liked. They have to be worn frequently for you to know whether they mould themselves to your shape, so that they're broken in and extremely comfortable. If it's your favourite pair of pants, you almost always wear it, and are reluctant to toss it aside in favour of another pair.
Alternatively,
Guys are like shoes. You also have to try them on for size. At first sight, they may look extremely pretty on your feet, but after buying and bringing them home, you realise it's not something you particularly like, so it was an impulse buy. There are times when you simply can't break into your new shoes. No matter how many times you wear them out, the verdict is that those shoes are not made for walking - they pinch the toes horribly, or scrape the heel, and that hurts. You wouldn't wear shoes that don't fit or aren't comfortable. Furthermore, without frequent wearing, you wouldn't know how reliable and long-lasting they are. Some shoes show obvious signs of wear and tear, or fall apart after a few outings. Favourite pants, favourite shoes, same thing. They go almost everywhere with you.
And perhaps, for both, you have to keep trying until you find the right one.
