The shirakawa trip has come and gone, so here is the picture post! It was awfully fun, and the scenery is so beautiful, the place so quiet - a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo with the towering shopping centres and crush of people. I couldn't get enough of Shirakawa. However, it was a little tiring having a fixed itinerary to stick to, rushing here and there throughout the day. Probably because that was the case, we got to do a lot of things, many of which we probably wouldn't be able to arrange on our own; Or even if we could, it would cost a bomb. An extremely cheap trip packed with happiness, I'd say! So let's allow the pictures to do the talking (together with captions, of course):.: Sekinomori Park :.
where we made our soba, and roamed the grounds.
pretty stream at Sekinomori Park
all ready in our aprons to make soba
with the soba we made! it was delicious :D
beautiful maple leaves
i couldn't get enough of the autumn colours throughout the trip! <3
playing at the park's playground. a tight fit, no?
i love bald trees too. not too common in spore, you know?
... hence i took loads of pictures of the bald trees around shirakawa
.: Kita Onsen :.
the wonderful place where we stayed the first night.
outdoor onsens with gorgeous views are one of the wonders of the world!
the path leading to Kita Onsen
just look at how our dinner was served!
my room (and room mate, haha)
with my trip buddies, sooyon and lissa
the awesome view from the outdoor onsen
dreamily foggy...listening to the sounds of the waterfall as we soaked...
where we had the tea ceremony, and were trigger happy.
a fat red dumpling amidst the pretty autumn colours
i love maple leaves! they are so beautiful!
hur hur. i wanted to do something different from smiling and peace-ing
i'm glad i went with her :)
fallen leaves
yellow leaves-strewn driveway. gorgeous.: Komine Castle :.
it was a little disappointing.
it looks too new, and too sparse within.
an empty shell.
majestic on the outside, boring on the inside
she had to remind me to step over the threshold, not on it. i kinda stumbled as i was about to step on it, remembered her words, and tried to change my step >.<(FREAKY SHIT MY ROOM IS VIBRATING NOW - EARTHQUAKE!!!)
... ok, thank goodness it only lasted a few seconds. back to my entry.
.: Ryuzoji Temple :.
where we slept over on the second night.
it was weird snacking and drinking alcohol in a temple.
meditating in the morning wasn't too bad, actually.
i liked the plain porridge + pickles breakfast too.
then again, i like food. ;p
the dharma i painted. pretty? :)
Ryuzoji Temple entrance
all of us ladies in the same big room
the painstakingly raked gravel on the temple grounds
i like this picture. our jumble of slippers at the doorway to our common room
big gong
why do the statues wear hats?
reminded me of the things you shake out of a container at the temple (what i saw on tv at least). but these are h u g e
The bus driver was skilled so we had a smooth journey, the activities were fun, the places were gorgeous... Much as we enjoyed ourselves, it was time to return to Hoshien. Sometimes at the end, our experiences seem dream-like. Did we really go to Shirakawa?
