First birthday celebration of an international friend. From that, I realised that people from different cultures celebrate birthdays differently. For Koreans, the friends provide the birthday presents, and the birthday boy/girl pays for the meal. And apparently having a cake is the norm. I was kinda like 'wow', because in Singapore, I usually get gifts and have my meal paid for. The difference being I seldom get cakes. =p In any case, shabu shabu and sukiyaki was wonderful, I probably ate enough for two people. Then we went to take purikura! Wow it's pretty cheap in Japan at 400yen, considering that we usually pay S$9-10! Fun fun fun. One thing bad about getting started, I'll probably want to take more for the fun of it, and waste money, raaar.

And maybe I don't quite like Shinjuku at night. Maybe it was because we were in Kabukicho looking for the restaurant, and there were so many men in suits with super funky hairdo loitering around. This guy sort of came chasing after yj and I, and although I don't know what he said to yj, I thought it was scary. Apparently she thought so too, because she wanted to go and walk with our guy friends.

It's rather strange, really, that I start having this kinda guy-approaching-me experiences only after nearly two months in Japan. The other day at Ikebukuro I had two guys come up to me, with one paying me the compliment of "You have pretty eyes". Compliments by a stranger in a foreign land don't please me; In fact, I was somewhat scared that he would try to ask me out, or make some kind of pass at me that I won't know how to respond to. He asked if I was waiting for my boyfriend, I said yes, and he said I was lying. =x Guy number two thought I was his blind date or something, approaching me twice to ask if I was the one he was waiting for, and whether I was waiting for someone. So guy number three was the fellow at Shinjuku mentioned above, and guy number four was met on my way back from Takadanobaba, where he was walking close to me while we were crossing the street. He probably repeated his question a few times (it took me a while to realise that he was talking to me), before I heard, "暇?" Obviously I said no, and he repeated my answer with a laugh, then walked off with his friend. Gawd, what's wrong with guys in Japan? (I can't say Japanese guys, since the first one was a Brazilian, or so he said.)

Hmm. Okay, it's 2.17am, and I need to meet at 6.45am to go to Shirakawa, so... Yes, it's time for bed. I think there'll be a massive picture post when I come back, on the birthday celebration and the trip. :)
